Stunning, I've still got a recoded version of Elite Plus that runs on the PC somewhere... I can still waste hours playing it.

I played it for ages on the Amiga (which was my first computer). When I was at my parents' a while ago and was looking for something in my old desk, I came across a file of handwritten commodity tables (planet/price).
Amusingly, I also found some pr0n...

Does that make Elite IV 15 years in development? :)

yes, but Frontier has produced a string of other titles in the meantime, so its not quite a Duke Nukem Forever...

I never did reach Elite. I got to Deadly, but I dont know if it was an Amstrad port bug or something, but I always ended up sometime around that point being jumped in warp, and unable to escape.

Still going to have to apply to Frontier, when I have a new website up.

If it was a short enough run that was survivable. Energy bomb to clear the initial wave of attackers then re-target your warp drive at anything you had the fuel to reach and begin the countdown. It was typically not much trouble to fight off further attackers until you warped out.

energy bomb? luxury.
did'nt have that in the Amstrad port.

and it never happened on short jumps, but on 6.5+ LY ones, and I never had fuel to get anywhere, even when I did beat them (thargoids, I think it was. octagonal hull)

Cor!

I must admit, I never really got into Elite in a big way - I was a Spectrum gamer, and it didn't have the same hold on the Spectrum that it had on the Beeb, but I remember it well, as well as the froth and squeeing from friends and computer magazines.

I played Elite years ago, when I got my first (work) IBM PC.

Years later, I was taken again by Freelancer.
