Laptop fail
10 Sep 2009 12:12 amWhen there's something plugged into the USB port, the DVD tray won't open because it catches on the plug/USB stick.
ETA: Stop it, I know there are ways around it but there shouldn't have to be. It's simply bad design.

Date: 10/9/09 12:10 am (UTC)It actually works when a standard USB cable is plugged in but the USB stick is a little bit wider. Not ideal when you want to burn the stuff that's on the stick onto a DVD without copying it to the HD first.

2. Tidy your desk so you can access the other ports - which perhaps you should do anyway as if the crap is that close to the laptop it's probably buggering up the airflow around the machine and stopping it cooling properly.
3. Get an extension cable as mentioned (or a USB hub).
4. Get a new laptop :)

TBH I think the bad design actually lies (in some ways) with the manufacturers of the USB stick; my mobile broadband dongle is thicker than a chav that's been knocked on the head too much, so they give you an extension cable so you don't run into problems like this.
