The amazing floating car

I guess if all the seals are really tight and there's enough air trapped inside, it works. Best line: "Police were alerted when the partially-submerged vehicle was spotted floating past the Haven Hotel"

The original VW Beetle used to have an urban legend associated with it, namely that the seals were good enough that it would float for several minutes. No idea if it's true.

Lada Nivas, on the other hand... [Youtube link]

Ace video. Lada Nivas are/were really good, though. Pretty much unkillable. There were loads of them in Iceland when I was there and they say all you needed was a potato (to stick in the exhaust in case you got stuck in a ford).

Kinda sorta reminds me of the hovercraft my boy got a good look at this past Tues. He was at a local Fire House for first aid training and the guys were showing off their equipment (no, not THAT equipment!). There was a shiny red rescue hovercraft there which son couldn't take his eyes (nor hands) off of. He learned all about it and is already thinking of design modifications to enable it to travel over surfaces which are not perfectly flat as well.

I didn't see it personally, but I'm assuming it looks something like this:

I liked this line: "All I could think was, 'oh my God, my car is in the water'."

Yes, I suppose that is what you would think...

I liked the bit that it was recovered by a barge company. Can you claim salvage on a car?

I have no idea. If salvage applies to anything in the sea, I guess so.
