As many have said, not perfect but good enough. Some excellent set pieces, some slow parts, especially at the end.

What actually happened to Starbuck and what is/was she? Taking her disappearance at the end as a clue, she really died on Earth but somehow came back as a physical manifestation.
Also, the prophecy about her proved to be utterly untrue as she took the survivors to (our) Earth and wasn't the harbinger of doom after all.

Again, there was All Along the Watchtower. When it came up in Watchmen I thought it was the end but it wasn't. Here, it fit.

She's the Holy Ghost. And the mental image Baltar and Six are, of course, Crowley and Aziraphale.

So Starbuck was an Angel. Like Head Six and Zoot Suit Baltar, but able to be seen and felt by everyone - it's possible she always was - even before her death.

And she kinda was the end - in the same way the Head Six and Zoot Suit Baltar were saying that living six and baltar were leading humanity to their end. Starbuck took them to their end - the end of the twelve colonies, the cylons and of (hopefully) the cycle.

I really liked the finale. I have a few odd quibbles - like in the final battle I'd have liked Starbuck to be in a Viper - but overall it was satisfying and wrapped up everything I wanted to know. The only outstanding thing is "what was the Cylon plan?" and there's a telemovie called "The Plan" to come.

Zoot Suit Baltar was fab. :o)

Ah yes, the Cylon plan.
Don't forget Caprica - The Soap Opera.

It was a deux ex machina ending which avoided answered many questions too specifically partially as to do so would of been difficult partially as it leaves them trailing ends to take up in TV movies

It was a good ending for the characters but plot wise it was a big old cop out but I don't think they could of wrapped up all the plot properly even in 3 hours so in some respects having it all down to God/Gods/whoever was the best way to do it

The original hybrid quote (in Razor) was "Kara Thrace will lead the human race to its end. She is the herald of the apocalypse, the harbinger of death. They must not follow her" and the direct quote to Kara in S4 was similar: "You are the harbinger of death, Kara Thrace. You will lead them all to their end."

Both are kinda true - she did lead humanity to *an* end (the dead earth of the proto-cylons) and to the end of their journey (on Earth2, our world). The "harbinger of death" might refer to the dead Earth rather than a death of humanity (though the "must not follow her" bit implies otherwise).

Though trying to excuse writers who boxed themselves into a corner with, IMHO, an increasingly far-fetched storyline is always a hiding to nothing ...

I have to admit I loved the series up through the end of the New Caprica arc (military SF, whoda thunk it!) but save for from the second half of S3 onwards things seem to have slipped. Still plenty of suberb episodes though.
