I'm home. Well, have been since a bit after 6 but just got off a long phone conversation with my mum.

Workshop was fantastic but hard. In the morning we practised a whole new level of the snake-cock-monkey sequence, it was almost like learning it for the first time. Unlike yesterday's Parting Wild Horse's Mane, I don't think I'll go back to this version before I can do the previous one perfectly. My body still has some changing to do. So yeah, good practice, good workout and a good time with loads of other people, most of whom would usually not be part of my social circle.
The social side of it is great, too. Literally everyone helps out in any way they can, be it setting up/taking down the tables and chairs for the meals, setting/clearing the tables, getting the food out of the kitchen (which is also staffed by members) etc. Just wonderful.

I'm going to sleep well tonight...

I'm glad you had a good time but I'm afraid you lost me at snake-cock-monkey.

Heh, sorry. I figured those who know (Yang style) Tai Chi would know what I'm talking about while others wouldn't care.
It's "Creep Low Like a Snake/Snake Creeps Down"-"Golden Cock/Rooster Stands on One Leg" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYMJak_K5VY&feature=channel)-"Step Back to Ward off Monkey/Repulse Monkey" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVlMf3pqOLU&NR=1) (ours look slightly different, then Repulse Monkey is repeated three times for a total of 4 backward steps and we don't do any martial applications but you get the idea).

I decided from the first that I would refer to "Golden Cock Stands On One Leg" as "The Funky Chicken".

There's a whole new level of it?! I'm bad enough at that move already!

Hehe. I think someone should compile a list of alternative/funny names for the moves. One of the best ones for ward off monkey was [livejournal.com profile] nannyo's "STOP, In the Name of Love" ;o)

Golden Cock isn't that tricky, just slightly different hand positions/movements but Ward Off Monkey is a different story (longer step back with a drop/sit, back hand going forward before the back stepping foot is on the ground and the arms in the turn to Flying at a Slant change, too.

Hee hee :) I find the balancing bit of Funky Chicken really difficult, but I suspect when my knees become less crap, it will get easier. *should practice more*

What other names do I have...the one after "Funky Chicken", that appears once in the first half and twice in the second half, is "Rice", because it's like you're picking rice and holding it up to the sun, and so you can have chicken and rice instead of chicken and what happens next oh no I look like an idiot, which was what I had before I thought of that name.

Also, "Repulse Monkey" is "Shelter Little Birds", because you do seven things like that then you do seven of "Part Wild Horse's Mane" aka "Deliver That Pizza Like You Mean It" aka "Free Little Birds But Not More Than You've Got". And "Four Corners" is of course "Hand Staple Forehead".

I am coming to know Wave Hands as Get Back In Step Middle Aged Women.
