Heh. Everthing else is just toys.
Re the Nikon shift/tilt one, this guy (http://www.flickr.com/photos/theamazingjosh/tags/24mmf35dpc/) seems to use it a lot.
The 300-800 is nice but the 200-500 is ridiculous. 15kg of glass and metal, you'd need a crane to lob it around...

I think this makes it look sensible. Pity it seems to be discontinued though.

I see your 1200 and raise a 1200-1700 zoom (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/zoomsMF/12001700mm.htm). ;o)

You want macro, I'll give you 100:1 macro and about 0.001mm depth of field.

And I am allowed to, as this is my day job :)

Why not infinite DOF? Not that I've used it- most of what I've worked on doesn't need 1:1

I do wish I'd spent more time on the SEM though.

I got to play with one of those very briefly when I worked in a 2nd hand camera shop (Morgan Cameras, before they became a computer shop). Ridiculously heavy, but VERY sharp.

Excellent!

I have the Sigma 10-20mm for my Canon 400D and am very happy with it ... my standard "kit" is the 10-20, the 30mm f1.4 prime (for low light), and 18-200mm utility lens (for wandering around) ... plus a Canon EF 70-200 f4 for when I want something brighter in the zoom length, but still light enough to carry in the shoulder bag.

I also still have the 300D and that usually has the kit 18-55mm plus the 50mm f1.8 in the bag, but realistically it never leaves the house anymore, so I'll be putting it up for sale sometime soon.

The 10-20 is a crop sensor lens, though, so the 12-24 on an FX sensor should be roughly equivalent. You do get the constant f2.8 with the 10-20 but with the glorious high ISO capabilities of the D700 I can live with the smaller apertures of this lens as I won't need shallow DOF and it's 700 pounds (as per list price) cheaper than the Nikon 12-24mm f2.8 which I wouldn't use enough to justify the expense. I probably won't use it (much) in low light, anyway.

very true, but as both the 300D and 400D have a crop sensor, and the price of the 10-20 was such a bargain, it was what I could afford :-)

Loving your photos, and it would be good to meet up sometime so I can pick your brain :-)

I know. Now, a 10mm on an FX sensor would border on silly/fisheye. ;o)

We should meet up for a pint at one point, anyway.
I'm not sure if my brain is an ideal one to pick as my photography is a bit like my cooking, i.e. I don't have a recipe.
