I have had this rant elsethread, but whilst the game is disgusting, and Amazon are entirely within their rights to decide not to sell it, the people calling for its outright banning are talking absolute nonsense.
You'd have to show me some fairly compelling evidence that shows that such games actively encourage illegal activity in the first place in a significant number of people. You'd then have to explain to me why this game (say) should be illegal but not (say) Grand Theft Auto or Manhunt, or indeed any films or books depicting rape, murder or some other illegal act. Desade, perhaps?
Of course, if you believe all of these things should be banned, then we probably have little to talk about anyway.
Personally, I boycott Amazon. This is just another example of something that is harmful to the community being another profit for Amazon.
Just like the child erotica, and also films now being prosecuted as child porn that they are selling.
I won't list the titles as I don't want to encourage people to go looking for such things, but there are many reasons why I am morally opposed to Amazon.
Despite the game being sick/tasteless/inappropriate (read the tags associated with it - as visible through TheRegister's posting of the LJ Cache, I totally disagree with Vaz and co getting in on the act: A foreign-certified game sold THROUGH Amazon by a third party. By all means, it could go through a banning process, and become a specifically prohibited item; then not allowing the posting would be reasonable. Do you really want to live in a society where "banned until proven otherwise" is the default? Saying which, this could become the test-case for the vague & catch-all piece of legislation that is the "Extreme Pornography Act" - though I don't think anyone in the public eye has invoked that can of worms yet.
The general debate is about as well informed as saying "all Hentai Manga should be banned in the UK since it is either about adolescents or being "Comics" is for them". Saying which, calling someone a Hentai is common slang for "Pervert".
It's clearly aimed at the gullible and stupid. Which explains why the
reviewer thought taking an empty glass near the batteries caused one of them
to explode ;)
