I realise this guy's convinced everyone on Flickr... but I'm somewhat suspicious that reflection is Photoshopped.

Here's the thing - the coloured ripples on the water are very distinct, suggesting the surface isn't flat. But the image of the bird is pretty much undistorted. Also, picking up the reflected image and flipping it vertically gives a close match for the shapes of the non-reflected copy (barring a couple of angular adjustments).

We can't see the horizon here, so the camera is clearly above the bird, but the reflection doesn't allow us to look up at its tummy.

Am I imagining this? Looks... unconvincing to me.

You're right, it looks almost unreal but his other shots aren't shopped and don't see why he would do it for just the one. There are definitely some distortions on the left (as we look at it) wing and the water isn't really rippling, unlike with the coot further down in his photostream.

Agreed- surely the top of the left wing should not be reflected at all?

oh wait! Whiskeylover is right! If it's a reflection, you should see the underside of the left wing, not the top. That IS a fake!

Should have read the comments before making my first one. :)

Now I see it, too. There's definitely something wrong about this. Shame. He really doesn't need to do this. The original without reflection would have been good enough.

That's more or less what I commented on the Flickr photo.

Funny thing is, nobody seems to have noticed. Still too busy making "ooh" noises!

Well, he denies it, both to your and my comment (on the "uncropped" shot). *shrugs* I'm definitely not going to press the matter. As I said earlier, he's got such great work, why would he fake this?

I have no idea why.

You're right not to press it of course, I was just curious to see what he'd say on the matter.
