How can the same piece of downloadable software cost $99 in the US and £95 in the UK? Not from different retailers but from the same vendor (Adobe). Even with the rubbish exchange rate at the moment, 99 bucks are no more than 70 quid.
Shame on you, Adobe, shame on you.

Assuming it's Adobe software you don't want to buy direct from them anyway.

It costs the same on amazon, for example. :o(

*nods* I find that with a lot of things, there seems to be a $1 = £1 exchange rate. Gah!

Because we pay it.

I guess some people do, but I prefer not to...

How much would it cost from Germany, can you see, [livejournal.com profile] karohemd?

Gah! €118 so even more expensive than in the UK.
Even stranger: the download is 3 euros more expensive than the physical CD in a box! Mental!

Capitalism gone mad!

Mind you, we sell our German games at either 30 Euro or 20 pounds, which was a fair exchange rate at the time but now isn't -- and we still get quite a few people preferring to pay the 30 Euro.

Isn't it?
That sounds perfectly OK for the pound/euro exchange rate up until a few months ago before everything went pearshaped (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7764425.stm).

I heard on the radio this morning that they want to cut interest rates yet again.

Yes, that's what I meant -- we haven't made any price change to reflect the recent depreciation of the pound.

Of course, we wouldn't want to be continually moving the prices up and down to reflect daily exchange rates, but it seems clear that pound / euro is now likely to stay well below 1.50 for some time. So it seems strange to me that some of our Germanophone customers prefer to pay 30 Euro, rather than the 23 Euro or so that they'd be paying if they bought the game in pounds instead.

Which program? Reason I ask, sometimes it's cheaper to buy their stuff as part of a software suite.

Lightroom. It's the only one I have (and need).

OK, don't know that one.

I'd suggest ordering from amazon.com, but by the time you've paid delivery and VAT it probably isn't worth it.

It's similar to Aperture for the Mac, a digital photography workflow tool. I need Version 2 because 1.4 doesn't support my new camera's RAW format. Also it has more editing features and things I'd like so I won't need a separate editing tool.

$90 on amazon.com which is over the limit so if I get hit with charges it won't be worth it. Hm.

Wht...how can something not support RAW format?

I bet there is an open source equivalent.

It depends on the camera model.
Lightroom supports the RAW/NEF format of my previous camera, just not the proprietary NEF format of my brand new one. They used to update Lightroom 1.x with new camera formats every few months but since Version 2 came out earlier this year, updates for Version 1.x have stopped.

The open source authors will have to write new code for the new format, too. It always takes a while and depends on how widely camera manufacturers distribute the relevant code.
