Stupid ripoff Britain
3 Dec 2008 11:59 pmHow can the same piece of downloadable software cost $99 in the US and £95 in the UK? Not from different retailers but from the same vendor (Adobe). Even with the rubbish exchange rate at the moment, 99 bucks are no more than 70 quid.
Shame on you, Adobe, shame on you.
Shame on you, Adobe, shame on you.

Date: 4/12/08 10:16 am (UTC)Even stranger: the download is 3 euros more expensive than the physical CD in a box! Mental!

Date: 4/12/08 11:00 am (UTC)Mind you, we sell our German games at either 30 Euro or 20 pounds, which was a fair exchange rate at the time but now isn't -- and we still get quite a few people preferring to pay the 30 Euro.

Date: 4/12/08 11:32 am (UTC)That sounds perfectly OK for the pound/euro exchange rate up until a few months ago before everything went pearshaped (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7764425.stm).
I heard on the radio this morning that they want to cut interest rates yet again.

Date: 4/12/08 11:41 am (UTC)Yes, that's what I meant -- we haven't made any price change to reflect the recent depreciation of the pound.
Of course, we wouldn't want to be continually moving the prices up and down to reflect daily exchange rates, but it seems clear that pound / euro is now likely to stay well below 1.50 for some time. So it seems strange to me that some of our Germanophone customers prefer to pay 30 Euro, rather than the 23 Euro or so that they'd be paying if they bought the game in pounds instead.

Date: 4/12/08 11:37 am (UTC)$90 on amazon.com which is over the limit so if I get hit with charges it won't be worth it. Hm.

Date: 4/12/08 12:26 pm (UTC)Lightroom supports the RAW/NEF format of my previous camera, just not the proprietary NEF format of my brand new one. They used to update Lightroom 1.x with new camera formats every few months but since Version 2 came out earlier this year, updates for Version 1.x have stopped.
The open source authors will have to write new code for the new format, too. It always takes a while and depends on how widely camera manufacturers distribute the relevant code.
