I like this less and less. It looks far too shiny (how impractical is a polished floor on a spaceship?) and it seems to be filled with teenage angst. Spock glowers like Sylar, Kirk and Bones are babyfaces and Scotty... I hope that little quote isn't representative or I will lose my respect for Simon Pegg.
They have six months to turn it around, I haven't given up my hopes yet.

20 years on, it's obviously tricky making pre TOS era tech look lower tech than TNG tech because real tech has advanced so much since then so I guess to look SciFi, it has to be shiny. But if it's really set 300 years from now, it should have at least 3D, if not neural interfaces rather than simple touchscreens. Then again, in actually 300 years time, we will laugh at our visions from today, just like we laugh at the visions of space travel etc. from the early 20th century so it doesn't really matter.

Let's hope they come up with a good plot and well-played characters, then. If they manage that, I'll be fine.

SPOILER ALERT!

the only part I really hate about that trailer is Kirk as a teenage boy driving a car off a cliff. how droll and stupid.

And what rebellious teenager gives his full name to a cop? Especially when his middle name is Tiberius.

One who is stuck too far up his own arse for his own good. Nothing changed there, then. ;o)

as much as i want to be pedantic about this i'm not going to be. i'm taking this entire thing as a re-imagining of the star trek franchise because i very much doubt it's going to take the previous series into consideration at all.

*nods* It's the only way to cope. They did a good job with BSG so we can hope.

My beef is that in the military, you generally aren't assigned to the same ship for THAT LONG. A few years sure, but this makes it look like they were on the same ship for ten, twenty years. >.> <.< If you're stationed on the same ship for twenty years and doing the same job ... you suck.

I'll probably see it eventually, because it's Star Trek, but I'm not really holding much hope. The Trek universe stopped being my 'ideal' a long time ago. (I moved on to things like B5 and Firefly. ^.^) I still like Star Trek, but it's not my preferred universe anymore.
