Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper is a NASA astronaut currently working on the ISS.
As if "Heidemarie Stefanyshyn" wasn't bad enough (can you imagine how long spelling her name has to take and she probably has to spell it every time she gives it on the phone or in person), she not only kept it when she got married but tagged on her husband's. I'm all for women's rights to choose to keep their name at marriage but if I were presented with an opportunity to get rid of such a monster and have one that's understood by the majority of the people I ever going to have to deal with, I'd know which one I'd choose. OK, there probably aren't that many Stefanyshyns in the world and preserving a dying family name is a commendable act but sometimes things go a little far. Hey, just signing must take her ages and most signature boxes won't have enough space for that monster.
