I'm listening to McCain's concession speech and I'm almost moved to tears. What a gracious loser. Respect.

I actually have a lot of respect for McCain & think he would have made an excellent president. As the Economist put it- it was a pity the real McCain didn't run.

Even during the campaign, which was orchestrated with the customary mud-flinging, he did break out of the Mr Nasty mould occasionally & told some of his supporters that Senator Obama was a decent man.

Now lets see whether he is offered a position as secretary of state...

I've heard this from various places and he might have had a chance, also with his own choice of running mate.

I think that would be the coolest thing ever.

Yeah, I watched that this morning. He needn't have silenced the boos, but he did.

Regardless of his policies I respected the man already if 'only' as someone who was a POW of the Viet Cong for 6 years.
I keep thinking about what that must've entailed.

Very good speech. As was mentioned, good that he silenced the boos, spoke of working together.

In defeat he looks better than he did when he was running for election.

Someone on a similar post by [livejournal.com profile] eddyfate commented that McCain had basically been indoctrinated by the Bush propaganda machine. If he had been able to do his own thing (incl. his own choice for running mate), he might even have won.

If he had spoken like that all campaign I think he would have won, Obama came across as somewhat cold and robotic with his acceptance speech.

Mm, I had a tear or two. Hopefully this signals a move back to being the decent John McCain of previously, now he no longer has to keep the reactionary bigots etc on his side.
