The Quibbling of Bolace

Saw Bond. Hm. First I should have rewatched Casino Royale to refresh my memory. As pmoodie said, the plot is rather convoluted and sometimes you don't quite know what or why something is going on.
It's not a classic bond film, either. Did I like it? Yes, but I think I should have watched Casino Royale on the big screen and wait this one out on DVD.

Basically, it's just a personal vendetta. There isn't even a threat to Western civilisation as we know it and the villain is a bit rubbish, too. No holding the Western world to ransom, just dodgy dealings with Southern American military wannabe dictators. From the trailer, I thought it would be Bond going rogue to get his revenge but it didn't go as far as it could have gone (I guess they do want to keep the franchise rolling). I thought that Quantum would turn out to be some modern variant of S.P.E.C.T.R.E but that doesn't seem the case. It might well turn into one in later films as I don't think it's gone yet.
I also thought you'd get a little deeper into Bond's mind but he's cold as ever.

I think they ~are~ setting things up for a modern SPECTRE, they most certainly didn't all leave / get spotted! And yes, it is a continuation as it were of the last film.

I think the 'holding the world to ransom bit' was a much more modern twist of a bunch of people working to the highest bidder, working subtly behind the scenes rather than massive in your face stuff. I also thought the water was a nice touch.

But yeah, mixed reviews. Its good, but not as good as a Bond can get.

*nods* The man Bond brought in the Aston Martin in the opening sequence (from Casino Royale) was at the opera and stayed behind. There might well have been others.
