Last night's lottery numbers: 20 21 23 24 27 28
and there were 11 people sharing the jackpot. Yes, I know, every number is as  likely to come up as the other so you can play consecutive numbers but I didn't know so many people did that.

Might be lucky dips. I've found that quite often when I let them choose the numbers for me, they're clustered.

Lots of people do do consecutive numbers. Many of them for the counter-rational reason that only an idiot would do it so they've less chance of having to split the pot.

When I used to follow it, the studies on numbers picked and combinations/patterns were really strange, the articles on least likely combinations were always worth a read, yet stayed relevent for a time, as people were still stupid over it.

See, my degree (politics) did have me study useful stuff. For a given definition of useful.

People behave weirdly.

Probably birthdays.

Also on a side note, when I was working in a newsagent, someone came in at 8 every saturday morning and bought a ticket with the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6. She was convinced that when they came up she would be the only winner. I didn't have the heart to tell her about the guy who came in at 9 every saturday and did the same thing :)
