Using the spoon you used for measuring hot pimenton for your chilli for measuring cocoa powder leads to an interestingly tasting cup...

Oh indeed, it was just unexpected at the first sip.

Yes, odd thing that. Expectation of taste has so much impact on the pleasure you get from it.

I like both coffee and tea, but if I take a mounthful of one when I am expecting it to be the other, it tastes repulsive!

(Chocolate in chilli is of course also very fine)!

That's why I never got to like coffee - the first time I tried it I was expecting it to taste like coca-cola (I was quite young, ok).

Darn tootin'.

Chilli & chocolate work really well.

Tea & chilli, on the other hand, is really quite vile.

I seem to recall that the Aztec's verion of Cocoa involved chilli. And human blood, but I'm not sure many branches of Sainsbury's stock it. If you know a friendly butcher I'm sure pig's blood would be an acceptable substitute. ;)

I'm sure my friendly neighbourhood butcher would be happy to provide if I gave them some notice but I think that would take things a little too far. ;o)

It interests me. There is a shop called Hotel Chocolate that actually do a chilli chocolate bar, so I imagine the two could actually work together quite well.

They do. Various brands of chocolate offer chilli flavours and you'll also find Chilli con Carne recipes that add cocoa or dark chocolate which gives an interesting depth to the taste.
Hotel Chocolat also do a drinking chocolate with chilli which is quite potent.

I just wasn't expecting the chilli taste and as [livejournal.com profile] mr_malk says above, if you're not expecting it, an usual taste can be harsher than it usually is.

Wooden chopping-boards seem to be able to retain, and impart, chilli taste after all sorts of scrubbing.
