Surely you only have one 40th birthday to choose from ;)

If I go to Japan you are welcome to come and try kobe beef and umeboshi :) I doubt kobe beef would travel well, though, and umeboshi like many things probably contains no artificial preservatives so you would have to catch it quick...

Kaolin is also in natural anti-diarrhoea tablets.

Somebody tangentially related to our research group is vaguely planning a durian party - that is, to get in a punt with a durian, go somewhere there are few other people and eat it. If it gets organised I will mention you may be interested, if it's ok...

LOL, d'oh. Stupid English language.

A culinary trip to Japan would be awesome.

That Durian plan sounds good and eating it in fresh air might be a sensible idea, anyway. ;o)

My friend Andrew wrote this - you might enjoy his blog at http://www.verygoodtaste.co.uk/ :)

I will get round to filling this in at some point.

I notice you have starred Durian... I urge you to reconsider!

It's the only taste I have ever not simply disliked but wished I hadn't tried in the first place.

I'm in the I'll try everything at least once camp, unless it's something I morally/ethically object to. For example, I wouldn't have eaten whale had I known what it was.

I'm the same actually. But durian really is extremely... oh well, you'll find out for yourself one day. ;-)
