No idea, but I am really looking forward to finding out. Once they finally release those films over here. :-/
Only having seen the trailers, though, I already wonder about this. For all its monsters, "Hellboy 2" looked a great deal more cartoonish than "The dark Knight", knives and acid and all.
Yeah, Hellboy is a fun romp while Dark Knight is ... dark. There's about the same level of violence but the one in Hellboy is either elegant (sword fighting) or comic (monsters fighting monsters). As to monsters, I find the Joker far more frightening than let's say the troll thing in Hellboy. I can't draw any more comparisons because I'd spoil it.
Well, it was to be expected really. After all, "The Dark Knight" is supposed to be influenced by Alan Moore's and Frank Miller's takes on the Joker, while Guillermo del Toro has stated in the past that his way of handling "Hellboy" was inspired by the italian "Donald Duck"-comics. Slight difference there. ;-)
Also I will have to see whether I will watch "Dark Knight" for a second time ( Once it finally! comes out!) in IMAX. The first time will be on a normal screen in the proper language but this time round I do feel quite tempted by the LARGE version, too. Yet, alas, that one will only be available dubbed. :-(
I'm assuming that 15 is closer to the "R" and 12A is closer to the "PG-13" we have over here in the states. If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the reason has to do with religiosity. Batman's just a man, but Hellboy? Well, that thar has hell in it, which means its of the devil. Good Christian kids shouldn't see that! And other such nonsense. I could be completely off the mark though.
I'm not a parent, but there's no way I'd let my kid see Dark Knight until they are 16, at least. The only way that scraped past the R rating was the lack of blood and swearing.
The lack of blood and swearing was probably what got it a 12A, whereas Hellboy has rather more of both, and gets a 15. The "Good Christian Kids shouldn't see this" argument doesn't really exist in the UK outside of the MediaWatch posse.
I'd probably have made Dark Knight a 15 myself, but I'd be happy showing it to most kids in secondary school. But then I saw Robocop when I was about 10.
15 is literally the age limit (no one under 15 allowed) 12A means anyone under 12 has to be accompanied by an adult. The next step up from 15 is 18 and then there's R18 (usually hardcore porn). I don't think religiosity plays as much a role here as in the States.
Because the 12A rating is a joke. It mean this film is a 15, but the cinemas want to flog the comic book movies to the kids so the vested interests won't wear it.
And I know that Hellboy is also a comic book movie, but not a big name comic like Batman. On the other hand, given the preview crowd I had assumed that it too was a 12A.
