Folk Festival day 1
31 Jul 2008 11:42 pmGot there just before 7, got my wristband and wandered in. Was immediately captivated by a Bluegrass band called Cherryholmes. They played very traditional Bluegrass/mountain music (harmony singing around a central mike, banjo, fiddle, guitar, upright bass) and they were brilliant. The stage 2 marquee was completely full already so I only managed to spot the stage from the side. I would have loved to be very close because the light would have been really good for photography. After they'd finished, I wandered around a bit, got a programme and decided to head to the Club Tent because the description of Findlay Napier & The Bar Room Mountaineers sounded good and I wanted to be there for the 3 Daft Monkeys, anyway.
Findlay Napier was cool and they did Scottish folk but I think I might have enjoyed Tunng more, as anything crossover usually rocks my boat but sadly I couldn't be in two places at once.
Then, however, the 3 Daft Monkeys came on and they brought thehousetent down with their bouncy tunes. They'd come highly recommended by
belak_krin and didn't disappoint. The whole tent was heaving with the music at the end and the band clearly revelled in the reception they got. After they had finished, I got a Northfield Farm burger, wandered to the bus stop and was home by 11.
A few photos are now on flickr. I only had the short zoom with me so no portraits.
