[Music] More sad news
21 Apr 2008 08:13 pmDanny Federici, life-long member of the E-Street Band and previous Bruce Springsteen projects, died of melanoma on Thursday.
Together with Roy Bittan's piano and Clarence Clemons' saxophone, his organ and accordion made up a major part of the E Street sound and it will be sadly missed. He had already been replaced during the current tour as he was undergoing treatment and while the notes were there, something was missing, Danny's personal touch.
I also remember remarking about the Crystal Palace gig during The Rising Tour that he was the only one looking his age or even older (despite being three years younger than Bruce) so I guess the cancer had already started his work then.
Danny was even on stage during the Indianapolis gig on 20th of March and played Sandy(!), one of my favourite Springsteen songs I've never seen performed live. In November, I got Racing in the Streets but Sandy will be lost forever.
Dammit, I'm actually fighting tears here over the death of someone I didn't even know personally but whose music has touched me profoundly. My only consolation is that Danny has now joined the Great Rock Band in the Sky whose line-up is one hell of a gig by now...
