That's a nice item on a bill.

What gets me is that the owner actually doesn't apologise for the insult but that it turned up on the bill. Sorry, I'd want my money back, decline the free meal and tell everyone not to eat there and maybe even sue the bastard because that just takes the p*ss.

I certainly wouldn't be leaving a tip, that's for sure!

Yes, this. Although there was that 10% 'service fee' they mentioned was included. What a load.

At least they weren't charged for it!

I wouldn't sue him. Theres already far too much of that going around.

But with it in the media I'd certerianly make sure that as many people as possible knew about it and avoided his resturant.

Nah, I wouldn't either as it would be silly but you know, someone who doesn't actually apologise for someone being insulted but that they got to see the insult they weren't supposed to is one hell of an attitude.
I'm doing my fair share of insulting clients among the team but I make pretty damn sure none of this goes out.

You don't write it on pieces of paper that go into a system whose purpost is to produce clients' documents.

It confuses me waht exactly they'd be suing for. Mental distress? Notification that the staff think you're obnoxious enough to write it down?

But they do appear to have acheived objective two—I wonder if sales will go up or down as a result?

Obviously we don't know how badly the customers behaved or if they just complained because their food didn't arrive for two hours (a valid complaint. If it's busy, half an hour is acceptable but a good restaurant with a working booking system needs to be able to cope with the amount of customers they let in at a time).

Well, the BBC have helpfully linked to the restaurant's homepage so that will definitely get some traffic.

I also don't like complaining but if I book a table (rather than turn up at random) for 8 and don't get my food before 10, I would definitely complain.

In a group of 10 people I'd have gone to the kitchen and started shouting back.

I love the way people's minds work (or don't) when they're talking. "The bill read 'fish cakes', which one of us had for a starter, and it was written right above it". I alreday have a strong mental imageof the speaker.

Knowing/chatting too a few people who have worked in the kitchens, I have a feeling she got off lightly...

You mean things like pissing/spitting in the soup?

re money back I'm impressed they paid in the first place. If I found that on my bill I'd either laugh or refuse to pay. I certainly would be more than happy to stand in the middle of the restaurant and loudly shout at the manager until he accepted that he was getting no money.

I suspect that there had already been a lot of standing and shouting and generally behaving like a twat or that message wouldn't have been on the bill in the first place.

We don't know how the customer behaved, do we? Having run a kitchen, I'm not jumping to the conclusion that this was totally unwarranted.

No, we don't (see above comment) as it's a one-sided account.
