Mentioning scary things on American roads

I think the scariest I've seen were full-size RVs (motor homes with more living space than the average 2-bed city flat in the UK) towing a full-size SUV, because obviously, you can't exactly drive to the restaurant in a rolling house.

They should have restaurants on wheels too, then the motor homes could just dock with them and they'd never need to stop rolling along the freeway. :)

Ubiquitous use of CCTV... check.
Legislation underway to enforce compulsory registration of citizens on a national database, with fingerprints, iris scans and DNA... check.
Summary execution of suspects in a public place with no resort to due process... check (OK, that's not a regular occurence, but still...)
Smoking banned in public places (we don't have a "smokatorium" yet, but it can only be a matter of time)... check.
Much of the population becoming obese, and I'm sure I heard a news story about some guy in the US using a "belly wheel" to aid his mobility.
