As I mentioned, there was a caricature artist at our work do on Thursday and this is the result. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nekofairy666 for scanning it for me!

Caricature me

Something I forgot to mention about Sunday:
As we were driving back at one of the roundabouts near Stansted, we spotted an old (at least 50s) coach, shortly followed by another. Further up the M11, we encountered a few more as well as a considerable number of old Roadmaster doubledeckers (at least 10 or so). There must have been a big meeting somewhere...

Coaches - yes, I saw that flotilla on the A1M near Peterborough - the couple I identified were from York.

Well it definitely looks like a caricature, though in perfect honesty, I can't say I recognise it as a caricature of you. I used to do a lot of caricatures back in the days when I was fab, and I'm quite particular about them (my own and other people's) I'm afraid.

What do you think of it?

I don't think it's brilliant but I don't think it's bad, either. There were a few others he got better, I think but hey, just fun and frolics.

Oh, absolutely. Looking at his site, he has clearly done some good stuff, but I know from experience that sometimes some people will see a likeness in a caricature that others will miss. I have done ones that I thought were absolutely spot on, to the point that I would have to laugh every time I saw them, but that some people did not recognise at all. I wondered if I was one of the "some people" on this occasion, or if the likeness had just not quite come (again, it happens, and as the likeness in a caricature only usually appears when you are almost finished, it's tricky to judge).

Where on earth did that jaw come from? I can see that it looks like you down to about the bottom of the ears, but then he has grafted on somebody else's mouth.

At physics conferences in the UK, there is sometimes this bloke called Trist (Geoff Tristram) who is just amazing. After about 5 strokes you can see the resemblance and it just gets better and better. He drew one of Joy which is just amazing. http://www.geofftristram.co.uk - and he does oil paintings that have just made me cry, they capture people so well.
