1. Go to http://www.careercruising.com/.
2. Put in Username: nycareers, Password: landmark.
3. Take their "Career Matchmaker" questions.
4. Post the top ten results

1. Film Editor - hmm, probably not, not enough eye for drama
2. Baker - No! I'm not a morning person anymore.
3. Cook - See below (passion and skills, yes, being able to survive in a professional kitchen, no)
4. Film Processor (what would I do? processing films? No)
5. Veterinary Technician (er, no)
6. Special Effects Technician (not skillful enough with my hands but that would be an awesome job)
7. Industrial Designer (again lack of creativity)
8. Power Plant Operator (oooh, shiny red buttons, I wonder what they do?)
9. Technical Writer (close enough to what I'm doing at the moment)
10. Butcher (I think I'd rather handle the end product but I wouldn't shy away from it. I know and I want to know where the meat I cook/eat comes from and I wouldn't have a (n ethical or other personal) problem with slaughtering animals)

33. Disc Jockey (have done, sadly not for money but it was good fun and will do it again)

The thing is that the two things I love doing most (cooking and photography), I wouldn't want to do as a job. I couldn't stand the heat and stress in a professional kitchen and I wouldn't have enough creative energy for being a professional photographer.

A Baker would be my nightmare job:

1.) I also hate ultra early mornings and

2.)I'm sure it would make me go off cakes.

Yeah, working in a kitchen got me skeletally thin.

My first job when i moved back to this country was Sayers.

I'm sure it made me go madder faster.

also- I thought you WERE a professional photographer!

*laughs* Sorry. The way my work is usually ripped apart by pros, I have a long way to go.
I'm a "keen amateur" and that's about it. Hey, even people like [livejournal.com profile] kneeshooter or [livejournal.com profile] davefish aren't pros (although they do work freelance for magazines etc.).

People say that to me too- then when I show my work to professional animators I go away feeling 10 steps behind. Gah.

Must draw more. -_-

Add to that that I don't even have any kind of qualification, I'm just self-taught. I also think that I wouldn't do well if I actually did a course because you get odd assignments that are then rated entirely subjectively and while I can take technical criticism (and value it), if people tell me my stuff is rubbish because I don't share their views, I'll get upset.

Argh! I was told I should go look at this entry, I wasn't expecting to see that!

I'm certainly not good enough to be a pro, you'd know this if you knew how many times I shouted "Crap!" at the screen whilst sorting through my Infest pics.

Stop belittling your skills. ;o)

What the above comment was meant to say is that I can't hope to reach your or [livejournal.com profile] kneeshooter's level of proficiency and if not even you are (allegedly) good enough to be pros, *I* have no chance in hell.

Well, Infest isn't exactly one of the best lit venues...

Hmm, that's actually quite an accurate meme - I wonder how many other people's 'real' jobs they get in the first ten results?

Heh - I got (after answering some extra questions on top of the basic ones):

1. Model Maker
2. Cartoonist / Comic Illustrator
3. Artist
4. Illustrator
5. Potter
6. Conservator
7. Mathematician
8. Electrical Engineer
9. Cartographer
10. Computer Support Person

...which all sound really cool. So how did I end up being a part-time linguistics lecturer?!

My actual career came 9th! Apparently my true vocation is legal secretary.

I posted about my results in my LJ!
The things that resemble my actual job are quite far down, but at least they are in the list! :D
