Are you planning to do highway 1? I was so brought a book but now I'm flying instead so can send you the book if you want?

I'm arriving LA first week in Nov.

Not Highway 1, it'll be Atlanta-Nashville-Memphis (with a possible trip north to the Mammoth Caves in Kentucky) and back, avoiding interstates most of the time to see as much "country" as possible.
Thank you for the offer, though.
Highway 1 is definitely in my future planning schedule (when I've won the lottery or can take a year off) but ideally it would involve the whole thing (from Alaska to Patagonia).

When I was in Ushuaia (bottom end in Argentina (http://www.flickr.com/photos/karohemd/349847424/in/set-72157594420556474/)) last year, I was briefly tempted to stay behind, quit my job, buy a car and do it South-North but sanity prevailed. ;o)

That's excellent! I'll certainly use it for our Indy-NYC trip in August.

We've got a book called Weird US but it doesn't have any maps or a state by state index. I went through it the other night and most of the weirdness seems to occur in New Jersey or Pennsylvania, which is good for us.

And Mammoth Caves, do go there, but don't eat in the restaurant!
