After having covered fast short and long zooms and a very fast prime lens, I'm in the market for a prime macro/short telephoto lens.
I've collected two choices:
Nikon Micro 85mm f1.8
and
Sigma 105mm f2.8
The price range is the same (and within my budget) but the former would have the advantage of being faster for low light situations (gigs etc.).

Any suggestions, experiences, tips? Cheers!

most reviews I've read and heard say the 85mm f1.8 is the best of the 2
best of luck

I'm afraid I can't add much more than what you have said. The sigma is well thought of, but as you said the 1.8 would be very handy at gigs.

I think you should be careful - macro is macro and tele is tele... Macro lenses are not normally optimal for normal shots. I have got the 150mm sigma macro - it is great for butterflies (which is what I use it for) but the 2.8 is a gimmick - the dof on macro shots at 2,8 is a fraction of a millimetre...

I recently used the Nikon 2.8 for portraits and really liked it so I'm assuming the Sigma will be similar.
I know about the DOF but thanks for the warning. :o)
