Last night was pretty good.
First some cool news from [livejournal.com profile] autumn_storm and [livejournal.com profile] twentypence (I'll leave them to tell you about it) and it was [livejournal.com profile] squad_bzn looking for more things to shoot which we found in the form of a few squishy gangers and less squishy doggy bots. [livejournal.com profile] rirekon should now finally have realised that even as a Stormer, you need decent armour, or will be obliterated time and time again. I wouldn't be surprised if Arther started charging you Flux tax. ;oÞ
Our previous efforts in the week (and Lenscap's footage) made it into a 40 second!! segment on Third Eye News. Read it

Now, let's hope this Blue will be over soon and we get a job that's a bit more interesting to those who don't just want to pop their caps (or other instruments of mass destruction) into squishy flesh.

Yeah, I'm not sure that character is working too well anyway, totally misjudged the value of various skills when I was rolling him. Great fun though, and it's not my fault I can't afford reasonable armour! ;-)

As a character he works fine, as stats the guy running his tank was possibly on a nod but its nothing we can't fix. You'll have a nice xp bump when we (finally fucking!) finish this (damn) Blue off (note: all Blues suck, its the law) so that should be able to fix most of the damage. Or you can make gooey eyes at Paul and offer him baby sitting to see if he'll let you juggle things around.

As for armor - everyones starts with pants armor but it dosen't stay that way for ever. Sponsorship, cutting finance deals, or going to a second hand armour sales man can all help get you the goodies :-)

yeah, we need some kind of Stormer discount armour shop.. also less suicide charges.

There are numerous ways to get armour without paying for it upfront, just think of real world stuff here, how many ways are there to buy a car?

And SLA is a lot more corporate than the real world.

Having had played before, I knew that highly rated armour was essential so I adjusted my priorities to give me enough cash to buy Stormer gear.

I guess I just don't understand the game systems enough yet, it's a lot more open than I'm used to. For instance I have absolutely no concept of how to go about getting sponsorship or the first thing about finance deals.
I'll learn, I'm just about 1 million years behind you ;-)

In truth, you don't need to learn that stuff, what you need to do (IC and OOC) is go up to Vincent/Delf and say "I need this, how do I get it?".

He's the financier, even if Delf has to then ask me, it's his role in the group, so you should rely on him to do it. Sure, ask him stuff and give him ideas, but he should be sorting out the details for you.

If you play a finacier in the future, then you'll need to learn it.

Whilst the game doesn't have strict character classes, it is built around the different roles in the squad theme, so use the rest of the squad to help you do your job better. :o)

I have a feeling that "Flux Sponge" is a less than useful role ;-)

I'll have a think about my character and what I intend(ed) for him.

That's where Vinnie comes in. :o)

The individual op doesn't really exist in that context, the smallest entity is the squad.

As Andy says, you will be receiving a sizable chunk of xp when this BPN is done, that will hopefully allow you to sort out the character to something closer to where you want to be.
If it's just the stats you're worried about, then it's nothing we can't fix.

Aye, mostly lamenting my lack of Detect and some way of repairing armour (Industrial Repair was it?).
Also just not understanding some of the stats, like Tactics for instance, and how/when I should use them. Guess I just need to read the book more thoroughly.

If you're worried about those two skills, then it won't be a problem. You will have more than enough to put those two up a bit.

The thing with SLA is that there are a lot of skills, and there's a big variety in the way games are run that affect which skills are used. Personally I think my games favour Detect more than many others would, so that's a good skill to have when I'm running, but maybe not with others, as such it's not going to be something you can find in the book.

The important thing to remember is that there's too many skills for me to expect you to have exactly the right one in a given situation, but there are several similar ones, so it's kind of up to the players to point out what you've got on the sheet that might be appropriate. Even if you've got something which is kind of similar, but not really, then you can still use it at 1/3 the normal level.

But feel free to sit down with me at any point and go through stuff you're not sure on.
