(on SkyOne, just finished)
A SciFi Channel mini-series that is original and good, with good production values (not quite reaching those of HBO but not bad at all)? Who would have thought?
SkyOne site

The best I can describe it is "mystic thriller" about a collection of interlinked everyday objects (a motel room key, a ballpoint pen etc.) with mystical/magical abilities. The whole thing could be very well set in the Unknown Armies universe (if you disregard the absence of Adepts and Avatars, just people who are after the objects) as the way the objects work doesn't necessarily follow your standard western magic conventions or at least those usually used in fiction.

I definitely have to get this when it comes out on DVD. Highly recommended.

Oooh - they took out advertising in the New Yorker a while ago. *adds to Netflix*

I wasn't too taken with the first 15 minutes or so.. but once it got going I have to agree, unusually good and.. different.

Have me met? We only seem to have one mutual friend (who I haven't met in real life yet!).

It was awesome. I'd seen the trailers and thought it looked good. I think I described it as an occult thriller but I don't think either phrase (yours or mine) quite get the right feel because it implies more magic than just plain weirdness. :)

I did feel like it was a roleplaying game though. Especially with the way that they were "playing" with the room to see what it could do. And taking his own doorknob with him was one of the most PC like plans I have *ever* seen. :)

Oh, and the how to get the clock out of the safe too. All awesome.

The one thing I hope is that they don't follow the lost route of dangling the "what is the real nature of the room and objects" in front of us for series without giving any answers. I'll be happy enough if they drop it but that kind of core mystery can be hard to sustain without getting annoying. :)

Yeah, I thought, 'This could be made into a RPG scenario very easily indeed'. ;o)
The bit with the doorknob was indeed genius.

As [livejournal.com profile] eggwhite said, "Who of my Mage players was on the writing team for this?"

Well, it's only three parts so there will hopefully be a resolution.

Ah, I'd thought it was a series. That should be very cool then. :)
