Just wanted to say that I've just been catching up on your posts, and the photogarphy from your trip is excellent. Particularly liked the penguins and some of the landscapes.

Thank you! It was a huge challenge and one hell of a learning curve, especially shooting moving targets from a moving and rocking platform.
I was so glad I was working digitally so I didn't have to worry about the chaff (and there's a lot). For example, I was dead pleased to get my first clear and sharp if far away albatross in only to scrap it the next day because the birds came a lot closer to the ship. My favourite albatross shot (http://flickr.com/photos/karohemd/340061016/in/set-72157594420556474/) is as it came out of the camera, uncropped. In fact, it came too close so I didn't even have the time to zoom out...
Time and luck were the biggest factors. Being there at the right moment with the camera ready and the right lens on was the first step and then getting the right moment.
For example, I was unlucky with the humpback whales and didn't see a full breach and missed the dolphins and orcas completely but I got the bouncing sealions which nobody else saw.

I'm going to write a photo geek post about it all in the next few days, maybe even tomorrow.

You look to have had a great trip! Would you mind posting about the dull logistics at some point (who organised it, cost, yadda), please?

I am so single-minded, I know, but could you write something about the two food close-ups? What's the orange stuff in the first one, for example?

I, quite frankly, have no idea. The orange stuff with the scallops and prawns tasted ... fishy.

Not sure what the crispy things on the deer steak were, either some root veg. Next to it is a littly pastry filled with yummy creamed mushrooms and a poached pear with cranberry sauce in the back.

Heh, oh well, it looks good in any case!

Mmm creamed mushrooms, haven't had those for ages.
