Weak lights but all from the front so better than it could have been. I still had to go up to ISO1600 several times so some will be quite noisy. More to come after I'm done with Dragonmeet. My short review of the gig is here and [livejournal.com profile] surje's here.

One of the few decent shots I got of her because she was standing with her back to me most of the time...

Morning,

What settings on your camera did you use? Whenever I take photos of people moving at night they are either lit but blurry or too dark (or trying to kill me after my Uber-flash blinds everyone in the building).

Cheers.

Most of these are at f2.8, 1/30th and ISO1600 or 800 (should all be in the EXIF data).

You will get motion blur at anything shorter than 1/60th so the trick is to time it so the subject doesn't move or has just stopped or just put the camera on continuous and rattle off six shots in succession in the hope that one will be OK.
If the camera is heavy, it's easier to hold it steady, too so all you need to worry about is the subject.

Curare darts should fix him. Cheers :)

I think the photos are fantastic, and know the difficulties you face with live photography, even when the place isn't as packed as the Water Rats was on Saturday.

Passing on the link now. :)

really like the last two, but the green head in the preview is also very strong. captures the mood overall, definitely.

I was restricted in my movement (i.e. rooted on the spot) and by the available light so there isn't much variety but I think I've done reasonably well considering the circumstances.
As Tony W was standing so far back, he was blocked by the violinist most of the time and blocking Andrew King at the same time, which was a bit annoying.

Nice!
I particularly like the close-up on the drum.
(The black and white drummer is also a good picture, but does look rather Nürnberg ;-)

Thanks!

I'm really happy with the drum closeup, too. It was a spur of the moment idea and I rattle off a series and this one was the best out of the sequence.
Yeah, that's the danger with Neofolk. I had to desaturate it, though because the original had been all red so everything got lost...

I'm very happy with my ghostly disembodied hand too :)

These are great pictures. And you did well to get such clear shots when the venue was so packed.

Glad you like it! Feel free to grab it for your own use (lj icon, whatever).

Thank you! I was in the front row, on the right (basically facing you) so I had a clear view.
