DVD player weirdness
1 Dec 2006 11:54 amWatched some Family Guy last night and when the DVD had finished, I pressed eject and while looking for the case with one hand, I reached for the tray with the other and ... no DVD. I thought that I had been distracted and already taken it out but it was nowhere to be found. I closed the tray again ... and the the DVD started playing again. Opened the tray again, no DVD. I shone my desklamp into the drive and sure enough, I could see it hovering there.
Being too tired to think of the obvious, I tried fiddling with various implements but the disc was duly stuck. Only then I gave up and decided to open the player. Surprisingly, despite it being a £35 offer from amazon, it's not a sealed unit but actually has a proper screwed on cover.
In hindsight, I should have left the cover open and try to see how and where the DVD got stuck but I just assembled it again and tested it with a failed DVD-R and it worked. Will have to be careful in the future, though.
Mentioning Family Guy, I've been really disappointed with Season 4, it seems to have jumped the shark. It's reduced to rather poor toilet humour and dirty, racial or otherwise discriminating jokes. Even Stuey has been reduced to making adult jokes and isn't the genius mastermind bent on taking over the world anymore (only failing because he's trapped in a toddler's body). Far too many "This is worse than when I did X" flashbacks, too. Shame, really and I shan't be bother with any more.
ION, far too tired to be of any use. Need to get stuff together tonight, charge batteries for camera and flash and then get an early night so I'm fit for Dragonmeet/Sol Invictus tomorrow. I just hope the gig finishes at 11 or thereabouts because trains are again being shitty. :o(

Date: 1/12/06 12:36 pm (UTC)Stewie, who was, in my opinion, the best character, lost his direction completely and was relegated to being the butt of loads of gay jokes.
The random asides became really annoying, and I seem to recall one episode that had about three or four of them in a row.
Sadly, the best Family Guy experiences I've had recently are the South Park episode and the My Name is Earl bonus feature.

Yeah, big shame about Stewie. I watched/listened to two discs last night while doing other things and I think I laughed out twice or so and maybe grinned a few times but most of the time I just cringed.

Date: 4/12/06 11:34 am (UTC)Season 4 must be what's been on Freeview lately, from your description. I get the impression that it was probably made at about the same time they started doing American Dad & that they kept getting confused between the two...
Shall we adopt a technical term for the endumbification of Family Guy? I'd vote for The Simpsons Effect.
