He's actually not that bad but it's still funny (if it's real).

Afraid not, a b3ta.com special from last week :) I actually like the guy and his receipe books are ok.

Figured it wasn't. Various things are missing like a brand and weight and other bits you always find on labels.

Yeah, I like him, too. He's cool without coming across like a twat and doesn't have any superiortiy complexes in terms of ingredients. His recipes aren't always to my taste but that's personal preference.

I generally use receipe books for ideas and suggestions on what works well with something else. The hell I am going to "put chicken carcass in boiling water for 2 hours with veg" when I can just buy prepared stock :)

It actually tastes a lot nicer made from scratch- and I just refuse to pay the same amount of money for 2 chicken breasts as for a whole chicken. So I'm frequently left with a whole chicken (minus breasts) to turn into soup. Lovely!

I am sure it does, all I need is a big enough pot and patience. At least I am not using stock cubes *shudder* :)

Ah- a big stock pot is a wondrous thing. Add one chicken (skinned), a couple of onions (quartered), a few carrots (peeled & chopped or sliced), bay leaf, peppercorns, water and white wine and you're on the way to a good stock...

And stock cubes have their uses- they're far more accurate for throwing at people for a start ;)

Yummy, I will do that at some point in the future, it is coming up for soup season. As for stock cubes, I remember playing with them when I was very young. I used tham as a kind of poor boy's lego :)

It immediately looked photoshopped to me!

You can tell it's not real because you're *not* supposed to prick sausages...

Entirely true.
I've seen it in recipes and so forth, though and possibly even on packages.
I rarely buy sausages and if then usually from one of my butchers so they aren't packed at all.

Hello,
I've noticed we appear to have friends, D70 photography and Germany in common, at least. Just a courtesy comment to say hope you don't mind me friending you. :-)

Not at all. *checks your info* Ah yes, I've seen you on the fringes of my friends list and I vaguely remember you taking some fine shots of [livejournal.com profile] quisalan?
If you can put up with the drivel in between, you're more than welcome. :o)

BTW, I've just upgraded to the D80 so I can have a spare body (the D70) and it's gorgeous. I decided against the D200 for the time being as the D80 seems to do all the things I want from an upgrade.

Urm, I dunno about fine, apart from the subject :-)
this is probably what you're thinking of.

I currently have D70 + 18-70 + 70-300 (both Nikkor), but swapping lenses is bugging the hell out of me. So rather than two bodies, I'm hankering for the 18-200 VR. When I win the lottery...

Yes, that's the set. I still like them.

My lens collection now contains the 18-70mm DX, the 50mm f1.4, a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 (gorgeous!) and since yesterday, a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 (basically making the kit lens obsolete).

The 18-200 sounds like fun, especially with the VR and isn't that expensive, either.
