For the mature readers on my friends list.
Mid 80s or so: A man trains sort of martial arts with a "mysterious" Asian teacher and in the end he's so fast he can run on water and dodge bullets.

Any idea what film that was? It was "[something] Man", IIRC.

That's the one! Thanks!

When [livejournal.com profile] ffutures was talking about Repo Man the other day I thought that was it but when I checked I realised it was a completely different film.
Repo - Remo. Quite close, though.

My first thought was Remo Williams, which might have been under a different title in the US. Do you remember him training on a weird circular board with raised areas along the rim for him to hit with his fingers?

Yep, without a doubt Remo: Unarmed and Dangerous.

Man that Fred Ward likes his B-movies!

Yep, the German title was a literal translation of that, the above looked kinda weird. Thanks!

Well, others have beaten me to it but it's Remo: Unarmed and Dangerous, based on the Destroyer novels by Williams and Sapir. I think I read nearly all of the first 100 or so before boredom set in.

Sorry, not Williams - Murphy and Sapir, or Sapir and Murphy depending on the book. Remo Williams is, of course, the character.

Yes, I remember that now.
It was "Remo: Unbewaffnet und gefährlich" in Germany, a literal translation of ..."unarmed and dangerous".

Damn, doesn't seem to be available on DVD in this country...

I realise that the question has been answered multiple times, but since I also recognised the film, I'd like to chime in and add my very own "Remo: Unarmed and Dangerous".

Remo! I remember that film, I even have it on video downstairs. Not that it's been watched in a very, very long time :)

I wasn't around for Blakes 7 either, but I've still watched it and enjoy it :) Though in the case of Remo my dad bought the video, I just happened to watch it at some point in the past.

Hell, I've written a Buffy crossover! Either the first or second bit of fanfic I wrote:

Speaking of which, I note that the mentor in Remo was played by Joel Grey; Doc from Season 5. Remo the Destroyer is also referenced in Jake Speed ("He works for someone else." "Who?" "Pinnacle." Which, for reference purposes, is the best line in the film.)
