I seem to have bought a new compact (it really is compact) digicam because my old one has a broken display and is a bit naff these days.
I'll take it out for a spin during lunch and will upload some test pics tonight. The scary thing is, it has the same MP resolution as my SLR...
Should prove handy for gigs and clubs. :o)
I only need a no-name soft case and a bigger xD card.

I also seem to have received the first season of Venture Bros. on DVD and I don't even need retail therapy...

You're probably one of te right chaps to ask... I'm considering (when the price drops just a smidgin) splashing out on one of the new Sony alpha 100 digital SLRs. To my 35mm addled Konika Minolta oriented brain, looks like a good bit of kit. What do you think of it?

I guess it depends what you want from a digital SLR.
dpreview.com has a rather comprehensive review (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydslra100/page30.asp) (link to the conclusion page, choose the sections from the dropdown list).

If you have lenses that fit from a previous analogue system, and the drawbacks mentioned in the review are irrelevant for your purposes, it sounds like a very good deal indeed. The tech specs are more than adequate for the average amateur or even prosumer photographer, and for that the price is awesome.

Ta for that. One of the reasons I'm considering this bit of kit is that the lenses I've got for my old KM camera will work nicely.

Must resist urge to run out and buy till price drops... must... resist...

Hehehe, I know exactly what you mean. I'm currently holding out for my next upgrade, too.
There'll probably be a price drop just before Christmas but I'm not sure if there's much scope. It is a very good price already.

The little Fujis seem to have a good reputation, so I'll be interested to see what you think of it.

I was very happy with my old A303 until I managed to fall onto the display as changing menu options blind is a bit tricky...

One thing that already annoys me slightly is that you don't have a viewfinder and have to use the display. It's very sunny out so I'll see in a bit how glare etc. affects it.

Full review after Infest. :o)
