Dinner tonight

I had picked up a nicely aged fillet steak from the Art of Meat but didn't fancy doing a lot of fancy cooking on the side so I just pan-fried it to medium, took it out, added about two tbsp of bruised green peppercorns, a small cup of double cream, a good pinch of salt (didn't salt the steak, only seasoned with white pepper) and let it reduce a bit. Served with steamed new potatoes and a mixed leaf salad with basil and a few cherry tomatoes (all of the latter from my box) with a simple dressing of EVOO, fresh lemon juice, salt and pepper.
The wine is a nice 2002 St. Emilion.
As I don't have the space for an elaborate place setting, here's just the plate:

Date: 5/8/06 09:07 pm (UTC)I also have the tiniest kitchen in the world so cooking anything that requires more than two flames is a challenge but I do have a Moulinette grill/mini oven thingie.
Part of my changing to eating more healthily is cooking more because then I know what's in it as I use very few processed ingredients, get my veg from my weekly box and buy meat at a good butcher's rather than the supermarket.
If I had a decently sized place that isn't stuffed full of things, I would love to invite people round for dinner on weekends because I love sharing and would like more feedback on my cooking. I'm glad I can usually borrow Robin's house for my birthday party so I can actually cater for more people.
