Wow, they kept the best for last for sure.

So, Rose isn't actually dead but trapped in a parallel universe with Mickey, her mum and her not-dad.

Anyone know who the "Runaway Bride" at the end is? The Doctor seems to know her...

Not the foggiest - wonderful, wasn't it!

Reasonably good, I thought. Excellent first half, nice finale - but a couple of things in the second half that annoyed me. Such as tears of oil...

No idea who she is!

I didn't think he knew her though; I thought he was majorly confused.

And... why didn't the TARDIS get sucked into the void?

From: [identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com
As I understood it, only things that had void stuff on them recently got sucked through and the TARDIS has never been through. Correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

How do you think they got to the parallel world last time?

Date: 8/7/06 07:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com
Yeah, true. Maybe the TARDIS is immune?

Probably the same way it managed to avoid getting sucked into the blackhole too?

Date: 9/7/06 08:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] djonma.livejournal.com
Nope.
Black Holes are easily created by Time Lords, the Doctor says so.
They learnt to totally control them, so keeping something out of one is easy.

The void, however... they can't control that at all!

Yeah, right up until the last five minutes.

A lot of RTD's writing qualifies as fanwank, I feel.

Should have known there's a Wikipedia article. Thanks!

I liked the ending - I was "WTF" at Catherine Tate - and the resolution with Rose was nice (even if it meant the promo and episode teasers was just tad misleading), but I was underwhelmed with the episode as a whole after Army of Ghosts (which I really enjoyed). Yes, the Dalek vs Cybermen stuff was fun - "There are five milion of us? How many of you?" " Four" is a classic - but I think the modern 45-minute format really didn't favor it.

Okay, it's probably just me having unrealistic expectations after the first half.

I agree, the first half was a fantastic build up that the 2nd half just didn't live up to my expectation. Maybe it's my fault for expecting too much, but i preferred it when a series covered just 1 story. (such as Remebrance of the Daleks)

Just a sign of modern society that wants quick entertainment.

I havn't seen the forst half, but HousemateAdam told me enough so that I could follow the plot, and I cried buckets!

>>Anyone know who the "Runaway Bride" at the end is? The Doctor seems to know her...<<

Character-wise, no idea, but the actress is moderately well known - Catherine Tate of "am I bovvered?" fame unless I'm very much mistaken.

It was indeed her (I caught her name in the credits). Though I don't know "I am bovvered". Where's that from?

I't 'am I bothered', a quote from her most famous character.

She's had her own sketch show on BBC2 for a couple of years.

Probably her best known character is a chav/housing estate teenage girl that is all attitude and won't let anyone else have a side to an argument (by going into a rant about "I'm not bothered, do I look bothered, look at my face, does it look bothered?" as though whatever has happened has no meaning or impact on her and everyone else is worthless scum. There were tons of trails for her Christmas show last year.

That was so damn good!! Well worth the anticipation!
But I do think it was too much squeezed into one episode.

No idea who that was at the end. Looking forward to finding out though! ;)

My thought about it what happens to the cybermen made in this universe? As far as I can guess, they weren't affected by the void-stuff.

Date: 8/7/06 10:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] eryx-uk.livejournal.com
Correct. Only those who had past through the Void were affected. Thus the Daleks (though I would have said that those inside the Ark were safe from the effects as the interior would be outside space/time, like the TARDIS) and the alternate Cybermen were affected.

the fans say ...

... that they cyber suits came through from the other side and so were dusty.

I'm guessing the Genesis Ark actually stores the contents in void space and so are equally dusty.

But the Tardis should have been affected since it's been to the other side ...

Not sure. The Doctor says that its Time Lord tech... making things bigger on the inside than on the outside. The TARDIS works because its a different dimension essentially inside. I would have thought the Genesis Ark would have been the same.

If you are going to store Daleks in the Void why bother putting them into the ark?

Re: the fans say ...

The Time Lords didn't put it into the void.
The Daleks nicked it just before they legged it and hid in the void.

Oh, it's just the set-up for the Christmas episode.

Date: 9/7/06 03:32 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] spencerpine.livejournal.com
Sorry, that wasn't very useful. What I meant was...

It's just Russell T Davies jamming something in at the end of the episode that we're not meant to understand. So, IMHO, it's not worth spending too much energy working out what it means. Even he probably doesn't know.

Date: 8/7/06 10:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] eryx-uk.livejournal.com
No idea. I haven't seen her or anything/one like her before.

I was really enjoying it up until the part where things were being sucked into the void. If it was strong enough to pull the cybermen all the way from India, surely it would have been pulling harder at the Doctor and Rose (and her Dad when he grabbed her at the end)... to the extent that their arms sould probably have been ripped off ;)

...and why did they get sucked in through just that one window? Surely it would have pulled them through walls as well given the power it seemed to have

Don't remember her name, the black, short-haired woman who played one of the Torchwood agents in the last two eps.
