I really don't know who she is (though I've seen her name around and disparaging comments associated with it), but that was quite some "love letter"!

A hardline right-wing, Bush-loving, pseudo-intellectual bint who gives Christians a bad name and can't back her "arguments".

Jeremy Paxman interviewed her on Newsnight last week, it was very funny. The video doesn't seem to be online anymore, unfortunately.
Hah, I found it on YouTube:

I don't have time to read this wikipedia article, it might be not exactly neutral:

...nice attack, devoid of facts.

She has more authentic academic credentials than say...oh, just about any commentator on the modern American left.

She argues very efficiently; she refuses to let Leftist substitute attacks for arguements, which tends to disarm them-- the Newsnight interview is a prime example of her dispensing with nonsensical questions that substitute for a discussion of her beliefs.

Just like hers.

I won't argue, I'll let her quotes speak for herself.

... so will I. The actual quotes, from the actual content.

Actually ...

... there were very few of her actual quotes (from the book) in that Newsnight "bit" at all.

I will quibble that I don't believe that students are indoctrinated for 6 hours a day 12 days a week, even in Los Angeles ... but I'll assume either she mispoke or they have some kind of special school week in LA (skipping every other weekend perhaps).

She said (and correct me if I paraphrase her incorrectly) that refusing a smiley face for environmental awareness to children that brought sandwiches wrapped in disposable plastic wrap (that would go into landfill) but giving it to children who brought their sandwiches in reuseable tupperware was some sort of liberal agenda in our schools.

I understood (and agreed) with her correction about the 9/11 widows.

And from here, the "liberal hegemony" in the media in the US is really not apparant (though I suppose it depends on her definition of "liberal"). We see a lot of US news that seems to support the Republican party, against research into Global Climate Change (I'm happy to argue about what the causes of GCC might be, but the facts do seem to support a long term change in climate, and we need to figure out what to do now), pro-Christian, pro-life etc. Whether there's a bias I couldn't say, but surely people can vote with their channel switch/off switch if the media are saying things they don't agree with?

What's wrong with encouraging students/parents to avoid unnecessary waste? I do it all the time (not the encouraging, the avoiding). Although it is already difficult to buy anything that isn't wrapped at least twice (even "organic" stuff), I can cut down on waste by not adding wrapping myself.

Have a look at the wikipedia article for quotes from her. It is rather scary.

WHA!!?!?!

(blink)
Newsnight was an example of Paxman dropping the ball.

There were at least 7 questions built upon her logic which he could have ripped her apart in...
For example:
1- Well Ann, you claim validation because you have sold so many books. Interesting. Adolt Hitler sold at least sixty times as many books as you. DO you mean to say that the number of booksales equals the validity of your argument? because if so, then surely, BY YOUR LOGIC AND YOUR WORDS Mein Kempf is sixty times more correct than your words?

2- Ms. Coulter, your central argument is that 'Liberalism' is taking on board the aspect of a religion in terms of its doctrinal proceadures and trappings- this is established by several indepedant academics who study the psychological process that goes behind 'religion' (I can quote the academics who say this but I don't have to as you use their substantive argument on your attack against "liberalism"). This being said, the same academics succesfully show that many majour sporting events and their fans experience 'religious' connotations in the same way you ascribe to 'liberalism'. Therefore, following YOUR logic and argument, will you be comdemning the cult like practices of NASCAR supporters? Or does the Church of NASCAR not contain 'Godless' qualities? And does this apply to all motor sports?

3- Ann my love...
You mentioned in the Paxman interview how one school in America prevented an American high school student from tahnking 'God' during her graduation speech. What you failed to mention is that the girl in question knew perfectly well the school regulations and had deliberatly planned to break the rules with her protest to demonstrate her feelings on the issue.
This is not an area of contention, as I am sure we would both agree that the girl was merely trying to express her freedom of speech and stand up for her faith in a society that limits faith-based freedom of expression.

Given this I am sure you will join me in supporting the rights of Muslims to protest the treatment of fellow followers of Islam during their graduation speech; Hispanic students protesting government policies; the burning of the United States flag and so forth...

These also are deliberate protests contravening school rules, and in the case of the Muslim student it is based upon the idea of upholding ones religious beliefs.

Or do you suggest that the Bill of Rights is EXCLUSIVLY based towards a certain group of people (white, saxon, christian) but does not apply to others (say for example Muslim, or let us be bold, black people).

Ann Coulter is a light weight.
If anyone took her seriously she would last 15 seconds.

Pl-LEASE!

Yes, but authentic academic credentials in what? She claimed on Newsnight that she didn't need to open a restaurant to be a restaurant critic, but that doesn't hold true for, say, scientific issues. So, for instance, she has claimed that regarding the theory of evolution, it is "1. It's illogical. 2. There's no physical evidence for it. 3. There's physical evidence that directly contradicts it. Apart from those three concerns I'd say it's a pretty solid theory". That to me is a prime example of a 'nice attack, devoid of facts'. Is that really arguing very efficiently? It sounds like unsubstantiated polemic to me. For more examples of her misunderstanding of scientific issues, that interview also has her spouting nonsense about climate change, embryonic stem cells and HIV.

Just to show how stupid she is, read the footnote in the wiki article about her claiming the photo on the Time cover was manipulated.
"My feet are the size of the Atlantic Ocean, and my head is the size of a tiny little ant."
It's called perspective, dear. It's not a flattering perspective, I admit that, but there was no manipulation.
