Finally managed to track down an English article on it.
A bear was roaming the countryside near the border but has buggered off to Austria again. Just as well, because the Bavarian environment minister wants to have him shot (not tranquilised, captured and moved to an area where he won't be able to do much harm). The mind boggles.
Bavarian TV (German article) now reported that the bear might have come from an Italian wildlife park and the Italians are obviously not happy with the Bavarian's attitude.

Instead of being happy that there's a bear after trying so hard to get a population going again, they want to shoot it. *shakes head*

They're probably worried that it'll swipe some pic-a-nic baskets full of tasty flammkuchen.

I've had Bavarian flammkuchen on several occasions. Or did you mean something else?

*shrugs*
You get things from different areas all over Germany but Flammkuchen isn't something I'd immediately associate with Bavaria.

Maybe he wants to get tipsy? I can see a tipsy bear causing a *lot* of problems...

That would be bad, I agree but could be very funny to watch from far away. :o)

Interesting. I'd heard it was one of those things the Bavarians had lifted from their neighbours.

The whole "hunting lodge" thing dies hard in some peoples.
