Re: Yay!
Date: 31/1/02 04:30 am (UTC)And Taneytown fits right in as well. Scary.
BTW, have you read his book Doghouse Roses (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0436276054/qid=1012480189/sr=1-1/ref=sr_sp_re/026-0238423-1658070)? I saw it at Heffers the other week but didn't get it as I've got too much of a backlog to read.
If you haven't heard the Bluebird CD yet, I can only recommend it. Just three songwriters with a guitar each, they don't need anything else. The only extra is a mandolin on Copperhead Road, which can't really be without one, anyway.
I've discovered this side of my musical taste spectrum again. If this goes on, I'll soon buy some traditional Bluegrass soon ;o) Hm, I need to look around if I can find that Will the Circle be Unbroken set on CD (I've got it on vinyl - 3 LPs - at home but haven't got my turntable here). If you consider that Emmylou Harris is most likely the youngest artist on that album, it's quite scary ;o)
Stupid question
Date: 31/1/02 04:52 am (UTC)Are Townes, Steve (Little Steven) and the Van Zandts from Lynyrd Skynyrd related at all?
Re: Stupid question
Date: 31/1/02 05:31 am (UTC)'Miami' Steve Van Zandt (of "E Street" and "Ashbury Dukes" (and "Sopranos")) fame is from New Jersey, IIRC.
Townes Van Zandt was from Tennesse, I believe. He died 1 Jan 1997 (the anniversery of Hank Williams death, oddly). I've got a couple of albums, which are super.
Van Zandt isn't that uncommon a name in the US AFAIK. (Townes ancestors were from Moravia)

Re: Stupid question
Date: 31/1/02 05:49 am (UTC)Still odd that a couple of people with the same name make very similar music (Little Steven's solo stuff was quite Southern Rock inspired, IIRC)...
