Neither the green bin nor the plastics box were emptied today. What's up with that? Council on strike?
The green bin has loads of space as all that gets is a bit of vegetable peels and cardboard bits but the plastics box won't cope with another two weeks worth of stuff.

ETA: D'oh, I forgot about the Bank Holiday thing but neither I nor the neighbours to either side or across the street remembered, either. Bah.

They haven't been put back a day have they? The bins around here usually get emptied on a Thursday, but this week (I'm assuming because of Easter) they're being collected on the Friday.

It was a bank holiday week, maybe they're just a day behind?

Quite possibly. However, it wasn't just us who put out their bins...

I wasn't sure so I put mine out on the correct day and waited for it to be collected the day after cause ours 'may' be on the right/wrong day.

They collected my bins today, they usually come on Wednesday mornings, so indeed the bank holiday has put it all back a day. That's pretty standard in this country for bin collections.

Dunno about your neck of the woods, but weeks which include a bank holiday Monday slip the collections by a day round here. This is standard but there are plenty of people who put their bins out today and are probably wondering much the same as you. ;)

They put things back a day after a bank holiday. That doesn't change their status as the cheapskate council from hell (but I won't go on about it :-))

Well as everyone else has said their has been two bank holidays. You should put your bin out for the normal collection date but expect it to be a day behind.

The collectors either collect more than they normally do after the bank holdiays, clawing back the missing day (collecting some on the day and being a little behind on some) or put in overtime to catch up/ usually a conbination of the two.

On strike days if they are on strike that day they wont collect and will only collect the next days on schedual. We had bins out for two weeks as we had a collection on a strike day. The council will not pay overtime for extra collections after a stike on principle.

We only have a tiny recyle bin. We collect in a week three times that much stuff (especially cans) they collect once every two weeks. We add to our recycle bin 4 large cardboard computer boxes (which we reuse) 2 beer crates and three plastic crates. The recylers collect all these, empty them, return the computer boxes, beer crates and plastic crates.

Oh for Britain to learn from Germany. 5 Compulsary diffent coloured full size wheeley bins one for each type of waste and fines for putting the wrong waste in the wrong bin. Thats the way to end environmental terrorism by not recycling properly.

We came home to find out bins full outside together with everyone else's and it took a couple of mins to work out why.

I hate to say it, but the council did put round a leaflet spelling out the changed collection dates for the 3 bank hols with their South Cambs news, so I guess the City council did similar.....

Possibly but that probably went under with all the takeaway/delivery menus, party broadcasts/double glazing etc. leaflets that pile up on my doormat every day...

And yeah, they were collected today, almost an hour earlier than usual, too.
