Thank you to everyone who came to the meal tonight and also those who later stayed for the Calling. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
the_mendicant and
robinbloke picked me up and we were far too early so we had a browse around the Asian supermarket. I picked up some chili oil and will have to go back there at one point for other supplies.
At the Cafe Adriatic,
raggedy_man was already waiting and the others arrived soon, too, except Ola, who had a big deadline and couldn't make it. :o(
Masses of delicious and reasonably priced food were ordered and enjoyed by everyone. I had the smoked tuna carpaccio with rocket salad as starter, roast pig belly with onion smashed potatoes as main and the dark chocolate coffee cup as dessert with a very nice Barbera. It was all wonderful.
I immediately made the resolution to go there once every month until I've tried everything on the menu. :o)
Got a text from Calling John asking when I would be there. Apparently, I didn't have the last set so we had to scramble a bit to get out of the restaurant but I made it in time.
Apologies for screwing up the first track but bloody Loki had switched off the cross fader again which I noticed too late. Sorry about that.
It was quite quiet so I had the occasional empty dancefloor but on the other hand I was surprised how well some of the other tracks were received (especially some of the medieval ones like Drachenschiff, or Samsas Traum and Lluther) so woo for a non standard set that not only made a difference but was actually liked.
After my set, I chatted to
vyvyan and
razornet for a while and then caught a taxi home at about 1:40.
All good.

Date: 29/3/06 08:50 am (UTC)I particularly loved the various folkish-mediaevalish songs with the bagpipes and all, however I've never heard that style of music before and know nothing about it. What bands/albums/compilations/websites would you recommend to someone who wanted to get into the genre, please? I can feel a horizon-broadening exercise coming on... :)

Date: 29/3/06 11:48 am (UTC)The whole mediaeval thing has been all the rage (and is still growing) in Germany for about ten years but hasn't really swapped over. Except Subway to Sally and In Extremo (who do metal crossover) hardly any bands can be heard over here. Consequently, it's hard to get the music in the UK.
The best way to start would be one or two of the Miroque compilations, which, mind-boggingly, you can get from amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/203-3774163-3551151) (neither Music Nonstop nor Resurrection Records have them). The latest is Vol. 12.
I need to have a look if there are any websites with English content.

Date: 29/3/06 12:09 pm (UTC)I love that Xotox track (the SITD mix is pretty special too :)).
I do not have any Heimataerde, it seems to have passed me by but I have heard good things. Got time for a quick description?

Date: 29/3/06 12:13 pm (UTC)Yeah, definitely one of my favourites on the album, too.
Heimataerde: Harsh Electro/Terror EBM/whateveryoucallitthesedays with medieaval influences/samples. New EP out in April, new album later this year.

So, Happy Birthday dude!
sorry it's so belated.
Thank you!

Your set was... odd.
:p
Re: Thank you!
Date: 31/3/06 11:40 am (UTC)I take that as a compliment. :o)
The thing is, that was a standard German goth club set. Just shows how different the scenes are.
