[Photo] Food and Drink(ish)
22 Jan 2006 10:15 pmThis weekend, I tried my hand at some food photography and some of the results follow. Quite tricky, especially if you don't have adequate lighting.
However, it showed quite well how tricky it is, especially when you see little bits or smears on a glass only after opening the photo on the PC.

Garlic bread

Steamed mussels with lemon grass, chalottes, kaffir lime leaves and chillies

Green Thai Jungle Curry (with chicken, mushrooms, green beans and green peppercorns)

My signature dish, Mousse au chocolat

ditto, with different decoration

Playing around with a glass and a flashgun with snoot

From directly above

Physalis on a neatly patterned espresso cup saucer, taken with No 1 extension ring and the 50mm prime lens

Dried red chillies, same setup

Date: 23/1/06 10:52 am (UTC)The mousse is chocolatey brown, really. The speckles are little bits of egg white that didn't quite incorporate properly.
As I said, the light wasn't ideal but the photo is pretty accurate.

And thank you!

Date: 26/1/06 12:13 am (UTC)I was an a professional photo shoot for a fruit salad advert years ago. It took them HOURS of set-up before even taking one snap. Your photos piss on those ones.

Some more depth of field in the mussels and mousse and smear free glasses and they would have been pretty much perfect.
The dishes were just shot on the counter with the striplights from above, the physalis and the chillies at daylight through their huge windows, and the glass with the green chilli in the dark room with flashgun. Basically no set-up at all because we wanted to eat!
I'll be trying to take more of this sort of shot in the near future.
BTW, I really like the Pierrepoint! Good choice. :o)
