[Mini Review] Awake the Machines Vol. 5 (ltd. edition)

In short: 2 CDs of mediocre Synthpop, EBM and Electro

On the first CD, only the Spetsnaz track That Perfect Body stands out and even that sounds like Nitzer Ebb. Even the Agonoize track isn't anything special.
The second CD has nothing noteworthy, either: an old track by Dulce Liquido (Reaxxxion) (why?, it's not even a remix), not even the Trüerwelten one is any good. The only exception are probably "Haujobs vs. This Morn' Omina - We Are the Renegades of Noize" which isn't bad and a remix of KiEw's "Synapsenbrecher" although both are the usual standard fare.

A big disappointment, at least it was cheap...

If the Haujobb and Spetsnaz tracks are the two stand out songs then I'm in trouble. I've had both of those for ages on EPs :(

Hmmm less than impressed by the Spetsnaz mix to be honest (turns out I don't have it). The Perfect Body EP is so much better and sounds more Nitzer Ebb-ish than this remix.

I'm only 5 tracks in so far but I love the Solitary Experiments track and the Hocico one is pretty good too IMO

I think the Dulce Liquido track made it onto the CD because it was only released on Industrial for the masses 1 and that's out of print now so it'd class as a rare track or something :\

Yeah, it's not that good, it's just the only one that was a bit different.

It's quite standard fare, though. Previously, the AtM compilations had more stand out/new stuff. *shrugs* I might be expecting too much from the scene or something.

I think people seem to be running out of ideas and rehashing old stuff at the moment. The whole noise/ebm mix like Combichrist/Dulce Liquido seems to have almost run it's course; Futurepop has become very samey as everyone jumped on the bandwagon.. even all the harsher EBM now just sounds like Hocico wannabes.

I think this may be why I've been listening to a lot of Ah Cama-Sotz / Architect recently as it's nicely different from everything else :)
The new OVNI stuff is very different from the norm too, but not very Ozzy friendly

finally finished listening to it. I see what you mean... it gets a bit bland and samey rather quickly.

Stand out tracks for me were Solitary Experiments, Hocico, Destroid* and Haujobb Vs TMO*

* which I already own anyway!
