Perhaps the film is aimed at those who have read the novel, rather than newcomers? So, they could get more out of it, knowing what is going on. I mistrust reviews generally, there are so many different ways to see a film. After all, it could just be fun...

One of my friends who saw it at the same showning last night really enjoyed it (Miramanga is her LJ nick). Personally, I'm looking forward to it but haven't got my expectations up. Unlike Sin City which has my expectations fairly high ;p
