Arrived last night without delay as it had stopped snowing in the morning and everything was clear.
Took the aiport shuttle and got a free tour of the French Quarter as the shuttle went there first to drop off other people, checked in my basic but OK room (the 20 bucks or so I save with accommodation I rather spend on food.)
Today took the streetcar around a bit, walked around the French Quarter and along the river (it really is muddy although I'd imagined it to be wider here in the South).
Had lunch at Uglesich's and although rather pricey (30 bucks for starter and main incl. tip), it was gorgeous, especially the Oyster Shooters I had as starter.
Went into the Virgin store and came out with 11 CDs (buy 10, get one free, at an average price of 16 bucks, that's 9 quid).

Tonight is live music and other things but only light dinner.
Tomorrow River Cruise and things.
Detailed update after I'm back.

The river....

...is pretty darn muddy most of its length. By the time it winds down to New Orleans, its also on the end of everything put into it upstream, as well. It does tend to stay fairly narrow, before broadening out into the swamp-delta land at the mouth of the Gulf.
