That's a really huge decorated tree. It sort of puts my town's efforts to shame, for every year they just get a random tall tree and add a few lights, it looks so plain and uninteresting now :(
I like the view from your window. There are various small details of the architecture, style, whatever that are quite evocative of Germany for me. Same for the town shots. I used to go busking in these places, in this weather would you believe, so it brings back memories.
I guess it's kind of typical, yes. Not too old, though. There was a big fire in 1856 during which the whole town burned to the ground, except for one house, the so called Pechhütte. Legend has it that was due to iron balls (so called Feuerkugeln, allegedly a Sinti/Roma good-luck charm) embedded in the walls. We've got a few legends like that around here, one of which I even used as an RPG scenario once. ;o)
