Tai Chi
Another new horrible move for me last night. My balance problems and general inflexibility are becoming quite apparent now. However, as I'm slowly getting the technique for the previous twist steps right, I'm sure I can deal with that as well. It's just that I really hate twisting my legs after I completely buggered them about 12 years ago by overtwisting them in two accidents. No actual pain or complaints yet, just a lurking uneasiness.
The group has shrunk to seven beginners now, not counting the four advanced pupils who always join the fray to act as models, basically. They and the instructor also performed the complete set (108 moves). Everybody was just wibbling at that, there's some scary stuff coming up. However, as I've now got a pretty good idea of the principles, it's not as scary as before. The main thing will be to remember, which way your hands are pointing in a particular move. There is only a limited number of stances, just a different variation each time.
I'm still eager to continue and learn, though, which surprises me in a good way.
New camera
I can't express how much I love this thing already. I don't know half of it yet, there are so many buttons and settings you can play around with but I'm slowly getting there. I'm already shooting with aperture priority with manual white balance rather than on full automatic. Dropping/adding f-stops is also quite easy and clearly visible on the top LCD so you can always see what settings you have. Sometimes you just need to change the metering mode when you want to shoot a backlight image (e.g. church tower against sky). Will upload some of the pics tonight.
It's good to have a proper SLR again, that satisfying clack of the mirror action that tells you you actually fired a shot without the irritating whine of a film motor. Review is instantaneous as well.
Very cool feature for experimenting with settings: The D70 writes all info into the EXIF data of the picture so all you have to do to check how you did a certain shot is to read the EXIF data.
Undoubtedly, there will be more wafflings which I will most likely create a special friends filter for.
