After watching the program on Emmylou Harris on BBC2 just now, I realised that I've been neglecting this sort of music far too much recently, especially Alternative Country and Americana. I definitely don't have enough CDs yet.
Shame that nobody would come if I ran a night focussing on it. Well, [livejournal.com profile] borusa maybe.

A suggestion for your alt country searches. Find some Cross Canadian Ragweed and/or Jason Boland and the Stragglers or even West 84

The "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack is a nice introduction to this sort of music.

Having listened to this genre for 20 years, I don't think I need an introduction anymore.
I simply don't have enough in my collection. ;o)

No Problem. I am a big fan of what they are calling "red dirt country". Aternative Country out of Oklahoma. It is really good stuff.

Wasn't Garth Brooks originally from Oklahoma?
I liked quite a bit of his early stuff but in the last ten years or so it's just been groanworthy.

I just listened to some Cross Canadian Ragweed and West 84 online and really like their stuff. Jason Boland is a bit too straight for me, or at least the snippets I heard.

I will certainly do another Americana/Alt Country/Southern Rock set at Octaine (http://www.octaine.co.uk) at one point. I'll see you there!

Jason Boland is Pretty Traditional. The Cross Canadian Ragweed and West 84 are more southern rock/country. I have CD's that i can recommend
