I didn't catch it properly but on a trailer for an Arnie special on SciFi there was a short bit along the lines of "The views in Arnold Schwarzenegger's political campaign do not necessarily go in line with SciFi's views"...

he's running for an elected office
if the Sci-fi channel are seen as promoting him as a candidate then they get hit by a ton of laws relating to that sort of thing and any supportive advertising/promotion having to be clearly marked as such. as they arnt a news channel or a primary news source they dont have the implicite reporters view so they have to but a warning / notice on it to make it clear and avoid possible troubles. its not actually as daft on their part as it sounds, their just making it clear and precise so there is no confusion.

I don't know, this making sure one doesn't get sued is being taken to ridiculous extremes recently...

its not about getting sued, its about running a fair and respectable media campaign. Personally I think its a good thing if people are worried about possible corruptions in the plebicite

It's to do with the fair time laws for political campaigns. broadcasters have to give equal time to candidates in political fora (unless it's paid advertising). for instance, Arnold's wife is on sabbatical from her national news job until the recall is over, and jay leno almost got sued over the fact that arnold announced on his show, when none of the other 130-odd candidates got to be interviewed by jay for half an hour on national tv.

I doubt scifi bothers to change their things from us to uk, so it's the leftovers of deniability. oddly, though, there seem to have been a lot more arnold movies on in the last couple months.

Ah, this makes sense.

Over here as well, there's an Arnie season on five and the Arnie special on SciFi. Not that anyone over here would be able to vote.

The scary thing is, he seems to lead the polls at the moment.
