Funnily enough, I think the new look Daleks have grown on me. I love some of the stuff they mentioned in Confidential about them that I was too dense to pick up in the show (that they have different types based on the colour). I do think the bigger version is good because now they can look the Doctor in the eye, whereas before they had to be made smaller because Billy Piper is relatively short and the designers wanted them to look her in the eye in "Dalek".
The one thing I think I would have liked is for the colours to have been a little bit darker.
I'm certainly a lot more sold on them than I am on Spitfires in space and of course shoehorning in yet another "you thought you'd destroyed them but unfortunately you didn't" plot.

The idea of size and colours is good, it's just that they look plasticky and not menacing enough. The soldiers in the beginning were fantastic and actually scary, also because you kept thinking "How the hell did they persuade Churchill they were the good guys?".
