Proper winter? Here?

Seems that way. It's cold, dry and sunny and there's actually snow that's settling off the roads. Blimey.
I assume it has been that way for a while? My car was truly frozen in and due to its stupid Italian design, it took me ages to actually get the door open.

ION, which is probably of very little interest to anyone but the photo geeks, my extension tubes have arrived (must have been before Christmas already). There's no Tai Chi tonight so I'm going to pop a strong bulb into a lamp and take some test pics of small things.

And now, back to work.

How cool is that?

I surfed around a bit on the page for the Antarctic cruise (the one I'm going to take is underway currently) and there's a webcam on the ship and you can see its position on Google Maps, too.
So, same time next year, you can always see where I'll be. :o)

I'll be trying to find some English info on the cruise soon. There were people from all over the world on the ship so that info should be available elsewhere.
AFAIK, I'll also be able to update LJ but depending on costs, I might keep that to a minimum. Ultra cool would be if I could upload photo previews...

It's a bit tricky as I need to go fully manual (no aperture or metering coupling) and it needs shitloads of light but I'm very pleased with the result.

Update: It seems to prove trickier, excellent. Think small, this is macro photography. Rikk and Matt were thinking far too big but oddly, along exactly the same lines.
